The new BlueChart g2 data cards offer a much smoother presentation on the plotter display due to electronically layered charts. It has all the detail of traditional BlueChart plus additional functions such as:

optional 3D “mariner’s view”
detailed coastal roads up to five miles inland provided by NAVTEQ
points of interest such as restaurants, lodging, entertainment, local attractions and more
navigationally significant full color aerial photos of marinas, harbors, inlets, bridges and more
marine services information
improved IALA navigational symbols
tides and currents
shaded depth contours
port plans
• wrecks
restricted areas

Many Garmin units now come preloaded with BlueChart g2 data. Specific features found in BlueChart g2 data cards not found preloaded in marine plotters are:

detailed roads
points of interest
photos
local and specialty charts, such as Explorer Charts, Wavey Line charts, bathymetric NOAA charts, Canadian charts and more

Boaters can purchase the data cards for use on Garmin’s newest generation of chartplotters, including the GPSMAP® 292 / 298 / 392 / 398 / 492 / 498 / 2100 series / 2200 series and 3200 series. With a unit software update, current owners of the GPSMAP 3000 series will also be able to use g2 data cards in their systems.
