Description
The GMR™ 21, along with
the
GMR 41,
pack power, range, high-definition targeting, and plug-and-play connectivity
in a space-saving 24-inch low-profile radome. The GMR 21, a sleek
X-band digital color radar with a 24 nm range, features a narrow 3.6-degree
horizontal and 25-degree vertical beam width for the clearest target
definition in all weather conditions. |

Digital Performance
Unlike competitive designs, which require a dedicated display/processor
unit, all Garmin radar processing takes place in the radome — via a digital
signal processor. Data is presented on Garmin’s Marine Network GPSMAP 3000
series chartplotter/multifunction displays (MFDs). The result: greater
efficiency and redundancy, since any chartplotter on the network can display
and control the radar. Digital processing also allows for more precise
recognition, enhancement, and filtering of radar echoes — making the
finished display easier to read and interpret.
Easy to Use
The GMR 21 features automatic and manual sensitivity and tuning controls,
including gain, sea clutter, and rain clutter — which allows boaters to
spend less time tuning the unit and more time navigating. The unit also
boasts selectable interference rejection, which mitigates the effect of
nearby radar transmissions.
Advanced Features
As an aid in locational awareness, GMR 21 radar images can be overlaid on
your moving map chartplotter display. In addition, you can configure your
display by splitting the screen to show overlay and standard radar
simultaneously.
To aid in collision avoidance, the GMR 21 also offers Mini Automatic Radar
Plotting Aid (MARPA) capability, which allows boaters to track the bearing,
course, speed and predicted closest approach (by both time and distance) of
up to 10 targets. MARPA functionality requires a GPSMAP 3000 series MFD and
an optional heading sensor.
Plug-and-play
Connectivity
The GMR 21 communicates with the Garmin Marine Network through a waterproof
100-megabit plug-and-play proprietary network — which gives you the ability
to expand your boat’s system as needed.
The Garmin Marine Network can provide vital situational awareness data like
GPS, radar, sonar, and near real-time graphical weather data and audio
channels directly on the GPSMAP 3000 series MFDs with a subscription to XM
WX Satellite Weather and Radio.
